Birdtorrent 0.3.0 vs Fedora...FIGHT!

·225 words·2 mins

A short while ago, I released Birdtorrent 0.3.0 for Linux. It didn’t take long for me to have a few readers test it and send me their feedback. One person actually brought a problem to my attention; that my component was failing to load.

So I reached out to this person and was able to find out that they were running Fedora 9. Now I didn’t have Fedora 9 available, but I did have a newly installed Fedora 10 VM. After some investigation of my own, I discovered that the out-of-the-box security settings in Fedora 10 seem to be so strict that it is blocking many of the components used by Songbird from loading.

Disabling SELinux seems to resolve the issue with Songbird’s components. However, my component still appears to be barred from loading. I even checked back to Birdtorrent 0.1pre and Fedora still doesn’t let it load.

I’d be very interested in any suggestions people might have. I’d also be interested to see if anyone out there has run into an issue like this before.

Until I can resolve this issue, or someone in the community can resolve it for me, Fedora is unsupported. I have set up a release notes page and linked it from the Birdtorrent Project page.

Thanks again for everyone who has tested my add-on and provided me with feedback.
